We recently had "newborn" pictures of our newest bub taken by a professional photographer.
Interestingly, as the day approached, I found myself referencing the shoot saying aloud or thinking, "Wish our photographer was here for this one,"!!! So, here are a list of wonderful moments in the life of our third son I "wish there was a professional photo for,".
1. The day my husband and I went to my birthday dinner at a nice restaurant with matching spit up stains on our shirts. I mean, can you imagine how cute? We could blow it up and frame it and put it in our master suite beside our wedding photo. Nice contrast, right?
2. When we experienced the most gargantuan poopsplosion known to man. While out in public. While it was 40° outside. While we had all three kids with us. While the little angel was asleep. While we were 40 minutes from the house. Wouldn't it be adorable to have a shot of dad holding up his legs and mom cringing while she sops up as many ounces of poo as the darling babe just consumed in milk?
3. The poopsplosion the next day. While mom had all three kids by herself. In public. 30 minutes from home. With no spare outfit because she put it on Mr. Pooptastic during the previous day's poop escapades. Naked babies are adorable in pictures, right?
4. A family photo would have been great when we decided to go hiking with all three kids near a beautiful lake. It was so picturesque. The eldest, four year old son running off to explore bugs and dangerous look-offs while the toddler stopped at regular intervals to squish mud or just refuse to go any further for the fun of it. Then you have the newborn that is absolutely starving to death because he did not just nurse before leaving the van. It would have been an awesome photo shoot: nature, breastfeeding, parental distress, children fending for themselves in the wilderness....
5. That bath when the precious lamb fell asleep. I sure wish our photographer was there for that...she would have gotten amazing shots of how a sleeping newborn can aim his pee directly into his admiring mother's eye.
6. Our nursery. I wish she had been able to get photos of our nursery at midnight while I was pumping milk on one side and nursing sweet baby on the other. Who doesn't love the sight of an exhausted mom fumbling with messy bottles of milk, dripping it all over the place, while trying to keep her newborn latched, then burped, then clean after spitting up, and latched again?
7. Brotherly love photos are the best. I wish I had thought to invite our photographer over for when all three boys want to share my lap. It is such a beautiful moment. A mom. Her newborn. Her 34 pound (nearly) 2 year old. Her 50 pound 4 year old. Several board books (ouch). Multiple cars. A couple trains. A sippy cup. Why couldn't we get that picture for our gallery wall?
You can't make this stuff up. It is life at its finest and I wouldn't trade it for all the perfect, photo shopped photographs of our family in the world!!
Wholly Mom,
